Why would you want to protect your family with home defense carbines and semi-auto rifles? Well, we could suggest a couple of reasons, not least of which is their smaller size makes for easy operation within a bedroom or hallway.
First, using semi-auto rifles or carbines for home defense offers a greater supply of ammo should you really get forced into a bad spot (assuming high capacity magazines are legal in your state). Sure, the argument could be made that you don’t really need a rifle with 30 rounds. Then again, the argument could be made that if the bad guy has one, you should too. Fight fire with fire or, at the very least, make sure you’ve got a carbine in the basement to use as a backup if your concealed carry revolver just isn’t enough.
Let’s be honest. You will likely never find yourself in a position where you need to defend your home with 30 rounds of .223. However, this is America and you can own it if you want it and that’s the real reason behind owning a carbine for home defense. You can. That brings me to our second reason.
Second, carbines and other “assault rifles” (a misnomer if ever there was one) are simply fun to shoot. You see them in the movies and on TV all the time, so it’s only natural to want to get one for yourself. They look badass and produce a loud bang at the range. People tend to stop shooting their 9mm handguns and look to see what you’re shooting when they hear the .223 go bang. Did I make my point? Shooting your AR-15 or other carbine is just plain fun.
